Schools involved in the programme have reported significant positive impacts on pupils and families. Headteachers from schools in areas of high deprivation described the initiative as a “game changer”, highlighting how the provision of free, high-quality PE kits removes financial pressure from families and ensures children can fully participate in sport and physical activity. Schools noted that children now feel part of a “sports family”, with improved self-esteem, confidence, and enthusiasm for PE lessons and sporting events. Many pupils who previously felt anxious or excluded because they lacked appropriate kit now look forward to participating and feel included alongside their peers.

The programme has also supported schools in reducing barriers to attendance and participation. One school reported that no children were absent from PE lessons due to lacking the correct kit, demonstrating the programme’s role in improving access and engagement. Teachers and school leaders observed increased enjoyment, confidence, and wellbeing among pupils, alongside greater equality and inclusion within PE activities. Parents have also benefited from reduced financial strain, particularly during a period of rising living costs.

Staff also praised the quality and practicality of the kits, including their durability, comfort, and accompanying storage bags. Schools noted that the kits matched school uniform colours, helping children feel fully included and reducing self-consciousness around clothing. Teachers reported increased excitement and engagement during PE lessons, with children taking pride in wearing the new kit and becoming more active as a result. Overall, the Kits by County campaign has been recognised by schools as a meaningful community initiative that supports inclusion, wellbeing, participation in sport, and financial relief for families.

The Kits by County Programme is delivered through schools on an ongoing and flexible basis, with participants accessing support through a referral process. The programme is free for participants and has a safeguarding policy in place to support participant safety and wellbeing. While the programme does not directly deliver sport or physical activity sessions, it supports participation in school sport and physical activity by providing essential PE kit provision for children who may otherwise face financial barriers. No specific accessibility adaptations or considerations have been noted.
